Press Release: International Youth Federation announces Rethabile Konopo as Chair of Nominations Commission 

London, United Kingdom:  Today the International Youth Federation named Ms. Rethabile Konopo as Chair of Nominations Commission. The decision announced via the IYF Executive Board. 

“The IYF Nominations Commission plays an important role in ensuring that the IYF continues to expand its member states and deliver its commitment to reaching young people on every platform as well as discovering and developing new ways to engage with them. In this regard, we are glad to have Ms. Konopo joined us at the IYF, as she brings with her a diverse skill set gained from experience across many organizations and industries” Said Ambassador Saeed ZAKI, IYF Secretary General.

Ms. Rethabile is passionate about Youth and their role in society as far as UN Sustainable Development Goals are concerned. A labour law consultant and founder of Konopo & Partner Labour Law consultancy, she cut her teeth in human resources and gained extensive experience in one of the largest retail chain in Africa, where she sat in the Pension Retirement Fund Management Committee.
She has been in the forefront of youth activism in Botswana, joining a voluntary youth advocacy body - as Treasurer of the Botswana National Youth Council Regional Committee in 2012. She is also a U.S International Exchange Alumnus under YALI Network in the track for Business and Entrepreneurship.

As the Local Merit Council President of World Merit Botswana, she has been endorsed to tackle the UN Sustainable Development Goal 8 for economic growth and access to decent jobs. In 2016 she pioneered movement - #SlaveWageMustFall in Botswana that advances the principle of “equal pay for the equal value of work” and has fiercely campaigned for “Women Deserve to work” initiative. 

She is a peace agent for Peace Revolution under World Peace Initiative. She holds a Business Administration Degree; Post Graduate Certificate in Enterprise Risk Management and Diploma in Labour Law. During the United Nations General Assembly in 2017, she was nominated as the Digital Ambassador at the Global People Summit +Social Good advancing a social dialogue on the most challenging issues in the world. She was also, nominated as the Thomson Reuters Foundation Scholar in 2017 to participate in the Trust Conference –a modern slavery and human rights conference. Recently she took part in the Stanford Go-to-Market Program in collaboration with DeBeers to accelerate youth innovative start-ups.
