Press Release: Kenya gained membership of the International Youth Federation 

London, United Kingdom:  In a statement issued today, the Executive Board announced that Kenya had gained the permanent membership of the International Youth Federation.  

Youth represent the most abundant asset Kenya has or will have over the near future. The youth are and will remain a significant share of Kenya's population for the near future. According to the World Bank, Kenya’s ratio of youth (aged 15-24) to the population stands at 20.3 percent. Our vision at the IYF is to enable young people in Kenya to get their voices heard and giving talented and motivated young people the opportunity to acquire the skills and knowledge to actively contribute to the development of their societies.  

Executive Board announces Valerie Opiyo as International Youth Federation Representative in Kenya  

Ms. Valerie is a young leader and activist passionate about youth and women empowerment, communication, advocacy and community development. Through her experience she worked as Tag’s International Development National Coordinator for Kenya, being project manager for i-tek, Tag’s ICT project Leader in Ndhiwa, Western Kenya where she used her knowledge in ICT to address Gender Based Violence among the adolescent girls.

In a comment on her appointment, she said: “I am looking forward to work with all the young people within the continent and beyond, and to impact more lives positively and contribute to the development agenda of my country Kenya”.

Ms. holds a Masters of Arts in Project Planning and Management from the University of Nairobi.
