IYF Kuwait Launches Youth Empowerment Activities to Inspire Action for a Better Future

(IYF - Kuwait): On October 29, 2018, the International Youth Federation in Kuwait organized two weeks workshop on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in collaboration with Kuwait Youth Public Authority, Youth News Network (YNN) and Hashtagat Online Newspaper.

The IYF Country Team in Kuwait led by Dr. Mona Mubarak Ben Ali, IYF Representative in Kuwait selected 17 young men and women and introduced them to the 17 Global Goal, and engage each participant extensively with discussions around youth, innovation and development and how those issues are related to youth empowerment.

“Through the IYF global advocacy efforts to mobilize youth for the SDGs, we tried through this workshop to demonstrate the values of training and empowering young people in Kuwait and enabling them to participate and engage in discussions and exchange experiences about the SDGs in their communities.” Said Dr. Mona Mubarak Ben Ali, IYF Representative in Kuwait.

At the end of the workshop, the participants received their certificates with special thanks to the IYF partners in Kuwait who contributed to making this workshop succeeded.

Young people are active drivers of change in local communities. Young people have a role in engaging people at the grassroots level and a role in communicating the goals to wider society.  Young people and youth-led organizations need to have space and recognition to participate in translation of the agenda into local, national and regional policy, in implementation, in monitoring and review, in holding governments accountable. Young people need a structured mechanism for participation through decision-making, ideally in co-decision manner, and especially in areas that have a clear impact on young people. Through this approach, we contribute to the most effective transformation into a better world for all.

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a call for action by all countries – poor, rich and middle-income – to promote prosperity while protecting the planet. They recognize that ending poverty must go hand-in-hand with strategies that build economic growth and addresses a range of social needs including education, health, social protection, and job opportunities while tackling climate change and environmental protection.
