London, United Kingdom: The President of the International Youth Federation welcomes today the announcement of the United Nations General Assembly on the establishment of UN Office on Youth Affairs, made by UN Secretary-General António Guterres, as part of this year's common agenda.

The future will certainly depend on the status of the youth today. It’s the fuel that keeps our society functioning and growing, which is why it’s time to focus on supporting young people in what they can do to make the world around them a better place.

Youth engagement will be the key to success in achieving a promising future. When more opportunities for participation are offered to young people, it will only further shape them into better leaders who want to make a difference in this world.

“At the IYF, we encourage all key global actors to increase support for youth development programmes, as it is one of the vital vehicles to accelerate sustainable development on community level.” Said Julia BLOCHER, IYF President.

She added: “It is crucial to invest in young people because now more than ever, it is imperative to build a future that fosters the qualities of a productive, creative, and sustainable society. Youth development through various capacity-building programmes promotes the social-emotional wellbeing of its members while also providing career opportunities."

The international community needs to recognize the importance of creating a sound standard for youth development in order to achieve more inclusive communities that produce leaders who will better us all.
